I. Introduction

Do you eat healthy?
Think about the food that you eat in a day.
How many choices are healthy?
Do you feel tired in the middle of the day?
How can healthy eating can help you grow and live longer?

Many times the way people eat affects the way that they feel throughout the day and overall.
As a team it will be your job to convince us to eat healthy. You will also report to us an example of a healthy day’s diet.

Standard 101.3C C. Explain the role of the food guide pyramid in helping people eat a healthy diet.

II. Task

Even though food that is bad for you tastes good, is that the right choice for you to eat?
Your group will assign roles.
The roles are as follows…
Pyramid- Will be in charge of referring to the food pyramid throughout the project making sure that the foods meet the guidelines.
Logger- Logs all the foods that they eat in a week.
Researcher- finds reasons why it is important to eat healthy
Reporter- pretends that they are a reporter for a news station and prepares a presentation to the class about a healthy diet.

III. Process

Step 1- Review research on the importance of eating healthy.

Step 2- review food log

Take a look at the food log of the person whose job it was to keep track of the foods that they ate. As a group using the log, answer the following questions.
• Did you have food from different food groups?
• Did you have too much of one food group or too little?
• Do you think your food is healthy?
• What could you get rid of that would make your food healthier if it is not healthy?

Step 3- As a group and using the food pyramid as a resource make a healthy days meal plan.

Step 4- Pretend that you are a news reporter and report to the rest of the class reasons why they should eat healthy. Include examples of a healthy diet in the report.

IV. Evaluation

You will be graded according to your group.
